PERSONALITY:
Darcy Lewis is nothing if not outgoing. The first thing almost anyone will probably notice about her is that she's probably the one saying something snarky about whatever's going on, or is making faces in the background. In a world full of superheroes, aliens, and freaky science, she's just this average person who's in the middle of some of it because of an internship. And, from that, she's had to learn how to deal with things that most people don't.
Which isn't to say that Darcy doesn't freak out at the sudden weirdness in her life, because of course she does. She's just a normal person in a world that's suddenly filled with things that are miles away from normal. Anyone would freak out. But despite the fact that she's mid-freakout, she can handle shit.
The thing about Darcy isn't just that she's the normal one or that she's the comic relief. At her core, she's a loyal friend. After everything, she could have very easily packed up and left, but instead has stuck it out beyond just being Jane's intern and became her friend. Erik could have just been that weird science guy Jane knew and left it at that, but instead helped hatch a plan to bust him out of a psych ward. There's something about her odd mix of upbeat and outgoing that makes her easy to get along with.
All that being said, Darcy is very self-involved. As much as she may care about her friends and be concerned about the things going on with them, she's definitely the type who will put herself first. As shown in canon, when Jane and Erik’s research was confiscated by SHIELD, her biggest gripe was that they took her recently loaded iPod. She's willing to go along with things generally, but that doesn't mean she won't bitch about it along the way.
While she may not exactly see it as a flaw, Darcy is very much the type of person to act before thinking. Generally it's more along the lines of running her mouth about things that people really don't want or need to know instead of, say, picking a fight. She's willing to disregard her friends' personal comfort if she thinks it means whatever should be taken care of is handled. Along with this, she can be painfully blunt. Where most people will use tact when discussing personal issues to people who are near strangers, she's the type to just ignore tact and social niceties.
What a lot of this leads up to in a way is that she's impulsive. Sometimes it can be a good thing, like coming up with a way to bust Erik out of a mental institution and thus having a hand in helping save the universe or applying for an internship that has absolutely nothing to do with her major. Of course, it can also be a somewhat negative impulse, like interrupting a date because something's going on an inadvertently having a hand in putting Jane, and the universe at large, in danger. Or tasing someone because he “was freaking [her] out.”
When in the same room as Erik and Jane, Darcy may not seem all that intelligent. They're both brilliant scientists who are working in the field that they were trained in, but Darcy isn't and honestly is out of her depth in some ways. While she's picked up things along the way, she doesn't think like them. And really, that's a good thing, because she is bright and is able to come up with explanations that never would have crossed their minds. In a way, she's one of those brilliant, but lazy types who could be applying her skills, but instead chooses to stay in a field where most of what she does is fetch equipment and coffee, input data, and drive.
ABILITIES: Nothing in the way of superpowers. That being said, Darcy has a couple standout skills that could be worth mentioning:
-She’s shown to be fairly bold, the best example of which is when Thor first arrives on Earth. Instead of running around freaking out because he seemed like he could be dangerous, she choose to tase him.
-While she may not be a scientific genius like her friends, she thinks very practically and is able to come to conclusions that they tend to gloss over, best shown by her theorizing that the Asgardians have visited Earth in the past and were seen as gods by those they encountered.
SINS & VIRTUES: Please list the sins and virtues you feel best summarize your character. If you feel strongly about one in particular, list that first. If you feel you have ample proof for your character to be placed in Eva's faction, you can argue that here. But you must provide several pieces of evidence showing that your character frequently indulges in ALL SEVEN sins!
The sin that best summarizes Darcy is pride, which can be traced back to the fact that she’s self-involved. While she never seems to try to make herself sound better than other people on purpose, she has moments where she does. The best example is at the beginning of The Dark World when she interrupts Jane’s date and starts commenting on Jane’s lack of hygiene previously.
Darcy’s greatest virtue is kindness, specifically the loyalty and friendship aspects. If she believes in the work she’s doing and it’s for a friend, she’ll stick it out, even if she probably doesn’t have to. the greatest example of this is the fact that she’s still Jane’s intern in The Dark World. Technically she should be out in the world, or at the very least be a paid assistant, but instead has chosen to stick by her friend’s side.
